Hi....I've just joined and am thrilled that everything i've read so far confirms my fashion sense..

It's funny but contrary to most of you, i seem 2 have only one fashion persona 'The modern classic'.i tend to go with looks that are simpler but also stylish. People say i dress elegantly and when i buy clothes i tend to go with styles that are more classical but also go for classical with a slight tweek..

In high school I tended toward modern-classic. Now I'm more of an artsy-eclectic, with even a bit of Bohemian thrown into the mix.

I, like many others, have found myself in several categories. I like that about myself. I often find that as the seasons change I tend to evolve..

With my largely plump shape (ha! that's a kind way of putting it!) I find that I look better in tailored items. However, the trendy fashionista speaks to me more than any other category w/a touch of funky urbanite.

I am an artsy eclectic. I love vintage and odd styles. I am a big hat freak, especially the old ones from the civil war or the early 1900s. I also love shoes, mostly heels!

[...] Then a client of mine (with equally finicky feet) insisted that they were worth a try. And they were. I’m delighted to have found a pair of fun, fashion-forward sandals that are stable and comfortable for about 4 hours. They don’t meet my “8-hour-shoe” grade, but they certainly beat dressy strappy heels that barely make it to the 2 hour mark. These wedges have satisfied the fashionista component of my fashion persona. There is hope for those of us with fussy feet! [...]

Wow. No wonder I can't find ONE style that fits. I am definitely NOT the Modern Classic, and though I am a total tomboy, I am not the Sporty Natural either. HOWEVER, depending on my mood, any of the rest: Bohemian Hippie, Trendy Fashionista, Funky Urbanite and Artistic Eclectic, fit me perfectly. My wardrobe is a perfect mix of those, and I almost never mix between the styles, but I have been known to do so.

[...] I get a lot of questions about fashion personas. Many women feel that they aren’t a perfect fit for one of them in particular. That’s ok! The descriptions of the personas are extreme. You don’t need to be a long-haired, bead-wearing hippie from the ’60s to be classified as Bohemian. You don’t need to stick to navy twin sets, tan pants and loafers to be a modern-classic. And you don’t need to be a platform-wearing, skinny jeans girl to be a trendy fashionista. [...]

Thank you for your thought through comment Christie - that’s fantastic! I shall consider re-publishing this entry and embellishing it.

Despite the fact that you feel that you are still working out your own personal style - it sounds as though you have it spot on. Often we are a mixture of a few styles (just like you have discovered). Our age, the fashions of the season that we have found our self in, and how we are feeling about our bodies and life styles at a particular time will affect our sense of style continuously.

I too am a mixture of different styles. I am trendy and fashion forward most if the time, but there is a strong part of me that likes to stay modernly-classic. If I don’t like the trends of a particular season – I tend to become even more modernly-classic! The trick is to continually experiment with new silhouettes, colours and combinations. Often – we are stuck in a mindset of what we think won’t look good on us, until we actually pluck up the courage to try it and it ends up looking fab. I hear this so much when I dress people in outfits that they never dreamed they could wear because they never tried them.

At the end of the day – I am a strong believer of the fact “that everybody can buy clothes – but style you have to own”. It sounds like you are beginning to own your own style by knowing what you like, can afford and are daring enough to try. Good for you.

Keep us posted on how you get closer to discovering what works best for you. I’m thrilled that my site has been of some encouragement.
