Your favourite dresses on the Golden Globes red carpet
January 16th, 2007I like to watch the fashion on the red carpet during the award ceremony season. This is the best time for stylists and designers to shine. Every year there seems to be a trend and so far “the white dress” was a popular choice at this year’s Golden Globes. While only one of the white dresses was amongst my personal favourites – it was nice to see a contrast to the overwhelming number of black dresses that have dominated the party scene over the holiday season.
I had expected to see lots of jewel-toned dresses (with the imminent explosion of colour for Spring 2007), but they were few and far between. Instead, shiny metals, svelte black numbers and neutral shades were in abundance.
My favourite dresses this year:
- Emily Blunt – in white and silver
- Naomi Watts – in periwinkle blue and metallic embroidery
- Cate Blanchett – in black lace
- Eva Longoria – in Grecian navy blue
- Angelina Jolie – in smoky grey
- Jennifer Lopez – in black and gold
- Reese Witherspoon – in acidic yellow
- Beyoncé – in glitzy gold
- Meryl Streep – in Grecian nude
Choosing the best dresses is subjective and personal. Stylists will differ enormously on this topic and so will your friends. I’d love to hear your list if you happened to watch the show.

I didn’t watch, but I looked at the photos this morning. I thought Reese looked particularly lovely. She has long been my favorite actress, and I was glad to see her looking so fab after her difficult winter. J-Lo also looked gorgeous (her make-up and hair were stunning).

I too enjoy Reese Witherspoon as an actress and it was fabulous to see her spunky and modern instead of classic for a change. She is still so young and can certainly pull of the look well.

It seemed as though several dresses were sort of Grecian in appearance. Is that an upcoming trend?
Surprisingly, I wasn’t completely in awe of any one dress this year. I liked Eva Longoria and Salma Hayek. My husband like Tina Fey’s dress. It kind of reminded me of a vintage Christian Dior.
Did you see poor Helen Mirren’s wardrobe malfunction on her way up to receive her first Globe? I think someone’s chair was on her dress and it ripped open a bit revealing the top part of panties, poor girl. She seems to have remedied the problem the second time she went up on stage.

Kind of late on this but I have to add how I loooooved Salma Hayek’s dress. Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria are right up there as well as Helen Mirren. Overall, I think a lot of celebs got it “right” this year.

[…] While white dresses were the favourite at the Golden Globes, nude, red, black and gold were popular choices at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards last night. Long or short, ruffled or sleek, Grecian or vintage, black or metallic, all seemed to have their place on the red carpet. I enjoyed the variety and had my favourites. […]

I love Tina fey’s dress! I was thinking about it for my wedding dress ( in white or cream of course). How can I find it?
