The butler bag

March 22nd, 2007

The butler bag is apparently the world’s first compartmentalized handbag. It was designed by Jen Groover who “was inspired by the common problem of digging through a purse in panic wondering whether something was lost or if she was holding up a line of people while her children were screaming.”  She was convinced that a handbag could be functional and fashionable at the same time.

Groover’s original idea was to put a dishwasher tray into her diaper bag. It was like magic! Everything had it’s place and was at her fingertips. She realized that this compartmental divider was also the answer to her bag problem. The butler bag comes in two timeless leather designs and an assortment of colours. You can buy the smaller version on-line for $95 and the larger one for $150.

I switch handbags often, so I keep the contents of my handbags to an absolute minimum. The butler bag is not be the best solution for me because I couldn’t fill it up (and it would get too heavy if I could). But it might be the perfectly practical and stylish solution for you if you like to use one bag for long stretches of time. Is anyone out there using one of these bags? I’m curious to know whether the contents remain compartmentalized once it’s in the swing of everyday use.

I’ve never heard of this. What a great idea! I can relate to the irritation of digging through a purse. More than once, piece by piece, I’ve pulled out items emptying most, if not all, the contents in a effort to find the one thing I’m looking for that seems to have hidden itself at the very bottom of the bag. That said…

I like trendy bags and change them almost daily to match outfits/shoes, so I’ll likely continue the quest of diving to the bottom of bags for the elusive items. Pouches for makeup and pockets in purse help some.

    Have a stylish day! :)

    I have one of these
http://www.bestofasseenontv.co.....Aodu3c4rg, instead - having seen it on QVC, I found one at a beauty supply store for $12.99 US. My wallet, agenda, camera and Ipod sit in the middle of the bag, with the purse organizer hugging the walls around them. It makes it easier to change bags, too - since you just take the stuff out of the center, then “roll it” and remove with contents intact.

It’s not pretty, but it’s quite functionally efficient -

Intriguing idea. I hate that feeling that I need to hurry up and get myself put together and get out of everybody’s way, or searching for the thing I’m looking for and just about having to dump the purse out to find it.

    Hmmm.

I recently bought a butler bag…. it is amazing! The larger bag has a place for my laptop and keeps the rest of my life organized. The security people in the airport love it. I think it is pure genius.

I have the Hybrid version (the large bag) of this bag in Espresso and I love it! I personally am a Coach person and have been for many years. I gave up my Coach bags for this purse! I am a mom of a three year old and this purse is great when you are in a hurry and need things out of your bag right away.

My son sneezes in the car, I have the bag on the front seat next to me (which lays flat, no rolling), I reach into the compartment where I have my tissues and hand it back to him (no snotty mess!). I had a situation where my son was melting down in the grocery store in the check out line and it was so nice to just open my purse, pull out money right away, pay, and leave! I have easy access to my sunglasses and know that they are not getting scratched or squashed in my purse. You don’t realize how great the bag is until you actually put your things in it and use it!

The leather is really nice and my standards are pretty high. The stitching is very nice too. The compartments are very sturdy. I don’t have any complaints! It’s a really stylish bag too! I highly recommend this purse for those who want some organization!!!

If you have the need to compartmentalize and want to to cut down on purse clutter… then visit WWW.CELICASE.COM. The Celicase is a small, handmade, genuine Turkish leather purse designed to carry your most essential items (cell/pda, id, lipstick, gum, passport, money). The Celi carries everything that’s important, so it eliminates the need to search your bag, or even dump the contents out.

The Celi can be carried four different ways (clutch, strap, looped thur belt, clipped to bigger purse). A cool feature of the Celi is the removeable clip that comes off the back and doubles as a money clip. There are 18 Celi colors and 2 styles (plain and Croco textured).

Even cooler???? The price. Plain Celi’s are $60, and Croco textured Celi’s are $65, both with a $10 flat rate shipping free to anywhere in North America.

I checked out the Butler Bag website. The bags do look gorgeous and come in a great choice of colors. Have any of you seen the new “couture” line that is coming up? I am seriously thinking this might be the answer!

I absolutely adore this bag. I have both sizes and they are incredible. Its amazing how lightweight this hand bag is and how much will fit in it. I am a sales representative and I drive most of the day from one appt to another. I stopped short and my bag flipped of the passenger seat and onto the floor. It actually landed upside down!! I unzipped and my bag looked perfect!!! You will adore this bag!
