Icy Lucite
April 12th, 2007The hottest accessory look for Spring reminds me of ice cubes and frosted ice. It’s called Lucite and it’s a clear plastic or resin material that’s on everything from jewelry, handbags, watches, and shoes, to the arms of sunglasses. Its transparent quality allows it to function like a versatile neutral. Lucite is playful, pristine and futuristic and best paired with white, black or brights. Add Lucite to your work outfit as a hip way to relax the corporate look.
Other materials (e.g. acrylics and PVC) can have a similar effect and are also part of the Lucite trend. If you sport a transparent bag this season, be sure that’s its contents are worth the exposure!

I don’t mind the Icy Lucite look in accessories, but in bags and in some shoes, it has a tendency to look cheap and plastic-y like something you’d get in a dollar store if it isn’t done right… at least in my mind anyway.
That, and I keep messy purses, and am paranoid that if people knew what was in my bag, they’d be more apt to mug me.
Maybe a frosted bag…?
But that watch and those earrings are fabulous!

Very trendy. I can’t see it lasting. Lucite comes and goes in home decorating, too.

I have a weird semi-transparent GREY jelly plastic bag that otherwise looks like a designer knockoff - They don’t last long - but since I got mine at a thrift shop for $6 I can’t complain -

[…] Chunky cuffs and bangles in resin, wood, Lucite, plastic or glistening metallics have made a comeback. It’s another ‘70’s and ‘80’s trend with a modern twist. I adore this accessory because it makes a simple statement: a single or superb set of bangles on a bare arm is all you need to finish your outfit off appropriately. […]

Angie, the great thing about the “lucite craze” is that manufacturers are now making it in many colors and patterns, such as the leopard print patterned lucite bangle on www.aSASSYries.com
