Ladies as my arms have loosened up as the years go by I have found that throwing on a cropped cardigan works wonders with a sleeveless dress/shirt and chubby upper arms. they make lovely ones with 3/4 to 1/2 sleeves that end between the real waist line and the bust, which brings the eye upward from the waist problem. TADA! how'd I do?

I appreciate the information, but it would be nice to have some visual aides on body types; I agree with the question on what to do about chubby arms -- I suppose capped sleeves would work, but finding the styles is the hardest.

If we we all had our own personal fashion consultant, imagine how more confidently beautiful we all would feel!

I am absolutely an apple and this was a great summary of the dress shapes that suit me. However I find that ruffles around my bust (like in the second dress from the right) make me look more busty than I'd like. Bias-cut is wrong wrong wrong for me as I also have saddlebags. And now I'm just rambling. In conclusion, I loved this post :)

Hi Angie-

I'm having trouble figuring out which shape I am. I am 38-31-39, 5'4 3/4" . Big strong shoulders, very short (non-existent ) waist, and muscular thighs and great calves.

I don't feel apple or pear. What do I look for??

Angie,

What about those of us who would rather not display chubby upper arms? I cannot find ANYTHING for day or evening that is not sleeveless other than "mother-of-the-bride" dresses.
