PS I'm glad to see you including Boden in your examples! I have been shopping there like a madwoman ever since they sent me their catalogue. I can't recommend them enough. Their products and service have been great. I get my packages from them faster than most places, even though they're in the UK, and shipping's free!

IMO, there's a shade of every color that works with every complexion/hair color. I thought I couldn't wear blue or green for the longest time because they both gave my skin that wonderful I'm-about-to-puke tone. Turns out that I can pull off darker shades of each color sans problème. Likewise I thought pink and red were always guaranteed to look good on me--but if I go too light pink or too bright red, I just end up looking like a little girl.

No two colors are ever exactly alike, so surely it stands to reason that there must be shades of every color that work for everyone.

Although, right now, if you threw enough white in with pink & brown it would look good (in my humble, frugal opinion). ;)

I agree about red-heads in purple. My daughter with the red/auburn hair uses purple as pretty much the basis for her wardrobe (she is 17 and it works with her idiom, but she wouldn't wear it if it didn't look good). We call the shade you described ______ (insert her name) purple.

I like pink with brown as well - but for Autumn and Winter which is why I didn’t mention it in my Spring 2007 blog entry. I agree that men and boys look great in pink. That’s very European!

I am quite partial to pink and chocolate brown combinations.

I think pink does wonders for a woman's complexion. And I love men and little boys in pink too.

No!!! This is where you are mistaken Maranda! Red heads look fantastic in purples. Purple complements orange beautifully...especially dirty pinky - purple shades. I promise that the right shade of purple will look spectacular on you. Give it a bash.

I'm with Joey! And, even though I usually don't do vivid colors, an intense warm purple does occasionally make its way into my wardrobe. It's a great color, I'm a little bit surprised it isn't catching on faster.
