Christie - I don't know that I can be too much help, since my circumstances allow me to be fairly casual (meaning today I will be wearing a skirt, tank top, and Chacos, sorry Angie!).

I can say that the Naturalizer sandals I just got from my grandmother look nice and go easy on my feet for my noon walks. And although I don't wear my wedges for my walks, I probably could. I have worn them for intense standing days and they have been very comfortable (Markon brand, I don't know that it's still available, I got them at the Nordstrom Rack).

[...] I was so impressed with the comfort level, price and look of these 8-hour wedge heels that I went back and bought a second pair. They are a dream! The elasticized top is extremely soft, forgiving to both wide and narrow feet and bunion-friendly. Their two inch, imitation cork wedge heel gives you a current fashion look, and height if you need it. I’ve put them through their paces (many 8-hour shopping days with clients) without a blister in sight. Unless you need arch support, these shoes are worth a try. [...]

I have a summer sandal to add to your 8-hour lists, Ladies (another Angie reco that I've been thrilled with) -- http://www.bornshoes.com/asp/shoepage.asp?itemid=W0236. insanely comfortable, you don't even feel like you're wearing a heel, and they're super cute on.

Okay - I've decided to try a pair of Converse! Mostly for running around town, errands, etc. (I'll try them with one of those inner sole thingies.) Would you recommend black or navy for my first pair? I will probably wear them mostly with jeans, and I usually wear black/white/brown tops. (I'm from New York and I don't wear a lot of color. LOL!) I'm leaning toward black, as but would navy look better with jeans? Thanks so much! I'm excited! My first Converse!

You are spot on Julia. Summer is just the biggest nuisance when it comes to trying to find comfortable shoes. I spend an enormous amount of time trying to sort this problem out with my clients and my own fussy feet. I refuse to wear ugly or uncomfortable shoes. It remains a tall order!

I simply love the Converse Mary Janes. I can't live without 8 hour shoes, and summer actually makes it harder to find the perfect shoe.

I just stumbled across this site and I love it! I'm finding so much useful info. I especially appreciate the specific style and brand info. I am very challenged when it comes to putting together outfits, and I get confused with too many choices.

One problem I'm having is finding a comfortable shoe, not a sandal, that I can wear with jeans and chinos, but that doesn't make me look squat. I love other people in those cute Pumas and Converse, but on me - if I don't have a heel, my foot looks huge and my legs look short! There are times when I just don't want to wear heels - for instance, a long day of shopping at the mall, or exploring on a vacation. I hate the bulky athletic sneaker look, especially with Khakhis (I feel like a gym coach!) Is there a trick for wearing flat shoes when you have short heavier legs (slightly big thighs)? Or should I just stick with a platform sandal, as you show above? Thanks for all the great advice!

Rebecca,

I would be interested in hearing which shoes you've found hold up best to the mileage. I'm a walker, too, and I often need to walk in nice clothes (for example to court or to a smart casual dinner). For everyday wear, I usually wear flat sandals, but I'm always looking for the best shoes I can wear for my long (1 mile min.) walks.
