Boden in the USA
September 24th, 2007You may have heard of a British online clothing site called Boden. The Euro brand specializes in clean-cut casual and smart casual clothing with a playful twist, for men, women, children and babies. The collections are usually colourful, somewhat sophisticated and a dash sporty. Boden ships directly from the UK to America and you’re able to get most of what they sell online. Shipping is at a flat rate of $10 and returns are handled through their Florida office (so you won’t need to ship back to the UK). The sizes are British and they take about 2 weeks to deliver. Their prices and quality are in line with Banana Republic, which makes their catalog well worth a look.
Euro-brand Boden is sure to offer you a feast of colour each season.

I’ve loved Boden’s clothes for the kids…I’ll have to look at it for me now.

I agree, Angie. Boden is great for incorporating color effortlessly. A great opportunity to touch their great fabrics and try some of their sizes on is at Boden trunk show. Since there are no Boden stores in the U.S., they have in-home “trunk shows” a couple of times a year. They send the current season’s lines of clothes to different reps around the U.S. who will then feature them in poeple’s homes. The Boden drawback is that their sizes seem to vary widely from item to item (even like items can run very different). You usually get free shipping and returns if you order at one of these shows, so it’s handy for ordering a couple of sizes to see which fits best. I’m not sure about the rest of the U.S., but the reps in the Pacific Northwest seem to have just finished for this season.

How does one find out about the trunk show schedule. And, any comments about the quality of the clothing (other than sizing issues)?

The thing I love about Boden is that you can see the actual garment measurements and not just some arbitrary size chart that is never accurate. I love waiting for their end of season sales because the discounts are enormous. I got a pair of gorgeous boots, originally $225, for just $75 last year. I don’t know if I’m patient enough to wait this time around though!

Clean cut and sporty yes, but playful and sophisticated, I’m not sure. Boden’s prices and the impression of quality (I’ve never seen their stuff in real life) draw me in, but finally there’s a blandness about the items that fails to make the sale. Same thing for La Redoute, I look and never buy or even feel tempted to buy. For BR price, I want BR flair. (That cream BR cardigan you posted, I have been daydreaminga bout it ever since — can’t say anything at Boden has done that to me.)

I bought two Boden items, a purple, scoop neck sweater with slightly puffed sleeves, and a cranberry-colored tank top. I chose them for the colors, mostly. The sweater was a little bit too short for me and the tank was a bit tight under the arms (if your around a B-cup, this wont be a problem, though) and in a pretty stiff fabric.
I kept both items, though even thought they weren’t perfect and have worn them both. I think Boden is still worth exploring. Their colors are really nice.

this is my new favorite line, for sure. i like the color and sassiness of some of the pieces. Finally, a line with some patterned fabrics!
i agree that the tops could be a bit longer though and they fit snuggly so they’re not for large busted women.
I agree that it’s close to BR quality.
