Instant style with short boots
October 4th, 2007Boots are magical. As long as they’re comfortable, I adore them in any size or form. Add the right pair of boots to an outfit and your style quotient doubles. Your wardrobe should therefore include at least a few pairs of versatile boots (unless you live in a year round tropical climate).
This season boasts a whole slew of interesting ankle boot styles that can be adapted to both classic and daring looks:
- Slouchy flat ankle boots are the latest look and in keeping with the retro 80’s revival fad. They work best tucked into skinny or straight leg jeans and were all the rage on the streets of London.
- Cuffed styles are another 80’s inspired trend and great tucked into jeans (without the legwarmers this time around).
- Tapered ankle boots are versatile, smart and sleek with pants or jeans – either skinny, boot cut or wide-legged.
- Wedged versions are streamlined and modern.
- Booties were fringe statements last season but completely mainstream now. It’s the boot with the least coverage and therefore ideal for warmer weather. They are particularly comfortable with elastic inserts at the ankle.
Ankle boots with skirts and dresses is an ultra fashion forward look, but not one that everyone can pull off. It’s not easy getting the shape of an ankle boot to work with the shape of your legs and the silhouette of the skirt. You’ll also need to think about the right type of hose to wear with this look. It is still much easier to pop a pair of fabulous knee-high boots underneath a skirt. Stay tuned for long boots tomorrow.

any suggestions for attractive boots that are also snow/rain/slush safe? lots of cute boots out there but they look like i’d break my neck if i walked through the snow in them.

Are booties right for skirts? I have seen people wear them like that but I am not sure…

Oh my goodness…those slouchy ones are IDENTICAL to the ones I wore in the 80’s. Identical! I should have saved them…

It’s 16 Candles all over again! Hopefully this time I’ll manage the slouchy boots look a bit better than in the ’80’s!

As a child of the ’80s, I’m bypassing this look as well. They just don’t flatter my legs like knee-high boots do.

I had a pair just like the slouchy ones back in the 80’s too!
I don’t care for the retro style because I was there the first time around. I do like the wedge heels, but not in that particular style. I guess I don’t really see a lot of opportunity to wear a boot like this. I’d rather spend my boot money on another pair of tall boots. This time, one with a wedge heel!

And that’s a very good idea Nicole. Spend your money how you’ll get the biggest bang for your fashion buck.
Booties can be worn with skirts and dresses Ana. The look is a little harder to pull off though.

Probably won’t go here because I have big legs and boots tend to make my legs look more like tree trunks.
However, one can pull this 80’s look into 2007 by going with a pointy toe or wedge version–that is a very new spin.
All the currency issues aside, if I were to imbibe it would be the 1st and the last pairs. Adorable!

I love wearing ankle boots but wouldn’t be brave enough to wear with a skirt. I like the ones by DUO that also come in width-fitting sizes - a company that can actually see that not all feet are exactly the same!
I especially like these ones:

Also - Joey - check out DUO’s calf fitting foots at their other website: http://www.duoboots.com/boots.php - they can really help with the wider calves.

Hmmm, I was considering skinny jeans too for these boots: http://www.amazon.com/Blowfish.....B000V9Z1D6 (mine are brown plaid though). Do I have any other options besides skinny jeans? Thanks!
