Hi Angie & everyone!

My name is Trish & I'm new to this site -- it's one of the best! You have a wealth of info & certainly put in a lot of effort and research - it's fabulous!

You've convinced me to buy 8 hour shoes. I was resisting because I stubbornly insist on wearing shoes that make my spirit beam when I look down. I hate wearing frumpy shoes. Hate it.

But my feet are in agony. So something's gotta give. Looks like my budget. Maybe I'll have to just be more discerning, and buy fewer pairs. Maybe one 8 hour staple for winter and one for summer, and then supplement with my other favourites?

I'm on my feet a lot. I commute to & from work via public transit. I want to have a complete ensemble when I leave the house (not change my shoes at work, like my Mom suggests! Her motto is "substance over style"!) Also, I have my pants hemmed according to the height of my shoes, so this really is a challenge!

Any suggestions from anyone out there would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Thanks for the advice, Angie, I never thought of skinnies as a real option. I found a pair of Gap black stretch cotton skinny crop pants to tuck into the boots and they look alright with a black turtleneck on top. Those black pants are the only ones that will work though, because my one pair of skinny jeans have long legs that only work with heels.

I then tried other black tops like a shirtdress and a linen tunic, but neither looked right. Boo! Still, it's nice to have one look that works rather than none!

Quite right. Neutrals will always work with colorful shoes. If you wear bootcuts or flared leg pants - your boots will peep out subtly (if you're pants are the right length). Once you wear skinnies, then colourful shoes will stick out a whole lot more. It's a style choice. Bright boots can add a whole lot of spunk to a drab outfit especially on a cold, wet and rainy winters day.

You've posted some pics of some brightly colored boots. What can you wear these with (red, teal, etc.)? Would you stick to neutrals? I like the boots but I have a fear that I'd feel like my feet were way too conspicuous.

The only possible flattering solution that I can think of is tucking jeans into them. But if this makes you feel dumpy, then that’s not a solution either. But you should at least try the look if you haven't already done so. You'll need skin tight skinnies (with stretch) to prevent any extra bulk on your legs. I must apologize that I cannot see another possibility.

Help! I have a pair of Minnetonka knee-high fringe boots in tan. Kate Moss and Lindsay Lohan wear theirs with denim shorts or microminis. I don't do micorminis and denim shorts look fine with the boots except that look is too warm for summer and too cold for fall.

I've tried wearing them with above-the-knee short denim skirts and tights, but because the boots are completely flat they make my legs look short and my head look big. (Plus the boots are tan and I can't match tights to the boots for a longer look.)

Is there a no-fail way of wearing these things? A-line skirts? I haven't tried tucking skinny jeans in because I figure the jeans will bulk up my calves.

Angie,
How about some stylish winter boaos that are actually lined? I have a couple pair of Santana boots that are or used to be made in Canada. Are there any other stylish brands out there for us northerners?

In Seattle we are pretty much in the same boat Wendy....and the rain has set in already. It's better to buy one pair of boots that you really love (even if they cost a pretty penny) instead of three cheaper mediocre pairs that don’t quite tickle your fancy. The "cost-per-wear" of those expensive boots will soon whittle down to nothing because you'll wear them all the time and you feel fab in them.

It did indeed Angie! And here in Ottawa (Canada) boots have to stand up to weather conditions. They're doing great (nary a salt stain), and I'm looking forward to breaking them out of the box again in the near future.
