From drab to dazzling with shoe clips

November 1st, 2007

Shoe clips are an interesting way to give plain looking shoes a mini-makeover. Department stores don’t seem to stock this type of shoe jewelry anymore, but I have seen them at consignment stores and at online sites like Aliza Darik and Absolutely Audrey. At between $20 and $46 for a pair (plus the cost of shipping), shoe clips aren’t cheap. But it’s less than you would pay for a glitzy pair of shoes and you have the added advantage of switching them between different pairs of peds. They might be the perfect addition to your holiday ensemble or even a pretty Christmas present.

    Very fun!
I have also seen “Moms” old clip earrings used for shoes.
There is a shop in Seattle called Rhinestone Rosie’s that has a ton of beaded and sparkle earrings.

Wait, wasn’t this trendy back in the 80s? I remember havign different shoe clips back then, too. Maybe it was 1990 when they were popular. I don’t know, I think sometimes they are ok, but remembering the ones from before, they aren’t always comfortable to wear and sometimes they don’t hold on to the shoe very well so they go off kilter or fall off.

I have used these in the past and found them uncomfortable….maybe newer ones are better! I love the concept!

Used these a little back in the ’80s and remember they left marks on my shoes.

I must have had a spot of luck with my shoe clips. They aren’t uncomfortable ( I can’t feel them on my feet) and they stay on my shoes. They look vintage (and I think that they are) and kick my black pumps up a notch. The wrong glitzy pair can look cheap (like bad patent)….you need to select a pair that looks aesthetically tasteful.

i love shoe clips! i remember reading about them somewhere else…can’t remember. i haven’t used them myself but i would really love to just get a pair of very simple french sole ballet flats and stash a bunch of shoe clips to dress them up with. it’s like a new pair of shoes every day!

I remember wearing clips like these on my paten-leather shoes as a kid back in the late ’80s. Like others have said, they do leave marks on your shoes, especially if you leave them on for days, and they can be uncomfortable. But if you choose the right pair they look great. Plus they are cheaper than a new pair of shoes, unless you shop at Payless like I usually do. Most of my good pairs of shoes cost $20, and they last until they go out of style and I buy new ones.
