I adore velvet jackets on men Nicole. They are mod and hip yet distinguished, and very Euro. They are not very forgiving with pet hair and lint though...so be mindful of that.

I'm not a fan of pullovers over shirts for dressy or smart attire Marlene. I think that it can look a little blah and casual. It's swankier and more expressive to wear a fabulous shirt. It's harder to look chic in a pullover, but a dark poloneck in an exception to the rule. I much prefer the shirt and jacket look for blokes when it comes to a smarter look. Horses for courses!

And what about sweaters...they seem to be common at casual festive gatherings. Some look good but many do not. Any guidelines?

Angie, What's your take on velvet blazers for men? I just bought my husband a black one. I like the look with jeans and what you call a smart shirt--untucked.
