The best place to buy boots is www.duoboots.com. For one good reason...all of their boots come in 21 different calf sizes. So whether you have skinny or curvy calfs, they WILL fit you. I have four pairs and I can totally recommend them. Great quality and top notch service over the phone. And they have a sale on now...need I say more! T x

I looove the urban styles above. I saw tons of them in Germany a couple weeks ago - over skinnie jeans and with skirts. So hip! I think I need to go (online) boot shopping :-)

Santana (made in Canada, not the Carlos Santana brand) are all leather and lined, yet they are stylish. Look at the web sites that sell them. There are lots of styles in brown and black. I have a high zip-up pair as well as a shorter ankle lace-up. I live in New England, and my previous pair lasted 6 seasons. I wear them every day and all day as a teacher that is in and out with yard duties. I never felt that I had to 'break them in'. Put them on and go!

Measure your calf and do a search on Zappos. Generally anything up to 15 and a half and 16 inches around the calf is available in the regular boot section. Otherwise do a "wide calf" search and check out this blog entry:

http://www.youlookfab.com/2007/09/26/are-your-calves-too-wide-for-long-boots/

Look for boots that have elastic insets at the calf area as these offer extra room.

BTW, the broken link on the 5th boot has now been fixed. Thanks for letting us know.

I am majorly in the market for a boot like these. I like the urban or fleece lined looks best. I really want to stay away from UGGs b/c I feel like "everyone" has them. But they seem so comfy, I'm having a hard time denying myself. The link to the black urbans you picture isn't working. I'd love to see them up close. HELP?

Do you have any specific brand recommendations for those of us with wide calves?

I don’t think any of these boots are smart casual. To me they look completely casual. However smart casual fleece lined boots are available in brands like Sudini, La Canadienne and Aquatalia if you get onto Zappos. There might even be a few more brands to choose from.

What a trooper you are to cycle in pukka Winter weather! You'd do marvelously well in the Netherlands.

Could those Fleece-lined or the first "urban" pair work with a smart casual look for work? With our recent snow and cold weather here, my normal boots, I am finding, are more appropriate for late fall and early spring. My toes get cold on that bike ride to work!
