New shoe: the peep-toe bootie
February 4th, 2008First it was the ankle bootie, then the Oxford bootie, and now a peep-toe version of these styles is Spring 2008’s trendiest new shoe. This trend sends the same mixed message as sleeveless woolly turtlenecks and short-sleeved coats (Winter items with impractical Summer styling). But peep-toes are super for Spring and this shoe is essentially a peep-toed pump with a little more foot coverage.
The ped is being paired with ankle length skinnies, walk shorts, skirts and dresses. It’s an eccentric look that’s definitely not mainstream. I can appreciate the fresh idea, but I can’t see myself wearing them. Can you?
Hot off the press: peep-toe Oxfords and peep-toe booties from Nordstrom. Heel heights are once again absurd. I quite like the streamlined look of the style without laces.

Whew - ugggggly. Especially the thicker heeled versions look like orthopedic shoes to me.

Cute- I like the oxford black and white one! Thanks for posting some pictures of this. I’ve heard about this spring trend buy hadn’t seen it yet.

They are cute–I can see them growing on me, but I don’t see them becoming a popular trend. Personally, I think the heels are ridiculously high on those particular samples.
I can’t say that I would buy a pair though–I’d rather spend my shoe money on something that will be fashionable for a longer period of time. I think these will be more of a flash-in-pan style that will look dated by 2009.

Weird. That’s all I can say.

I agree with Maris. U-G-L-Y.
The whole point of peep-toes, I think, is that they are a bit sultry. A bit sexy. Like a slit on a skirt that shows just enough. These hideous beasts have missed the point.

With my size 8.5 shoe this will make my feet look huge!

As a lover of shoes, I’ll say even though the black and white ones are on the border of almost cute, I definitely agree with the other comment about them looking like orthopedics.

Ugly….and they look very uncomfortable! That’s a pass for me!

I like the look, and can imagine it looking really great with skinny jeans. However, I agree with Nicole that it’s probably a short lived trend, and I will pass… Will rather be looking at stylish yet comfortable flats in fun new colors for spring.

I’m with you, Angie!!

These are just one of those things that I will never understand how to wear, like sleeveless sweaters, or wool shorts–things that have some impractical combination of winter and spring. I think the goal is to make a garment that’s versatile enough to wear for warmer and cooler seasons, but instead ends up being totally unreasonable for both.
Besides that, they’re really ugly. I think I’ll pass.

That shoe is just pathetic. It has no fashion reality and no one will buy it.
February 4th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
I suppose they may work if you live off planet! No thanks!
February 5th, 2008 at 12:27 am
No! These are just silly looking.

I love peep-toe shoes, but I think I’ll pass on these. I wear out all of my everyday shoes in a year, so I could buy these as throw-away fashion. However, I have such a small clothing budget that I’m saving it for practical things no shoes I’ll never wear.

Hi
I just discovered your blog and i find it great !
even if i don’t understand everything i feel how passionate and pro you are
I just quitted the press industry to create 3 month ago a blog that shows Paris through street style photo romances. It’s a new way for me to humanize fashion.
I hope you’ll like as much as people already like it.
As i need feed back from all over countries and culture to improve my work, I’ll be glad to have your opinion and why not share links to share our work and because i am sure that you share my vision : fashion is for sheep, whereas style gives personality !
ps : if you need some of my photos, I’ll be pleased to help you.
Best regards

Heel heights are totally absurd! I have bony feet and couldn’t wear these anyway. I think tho that once they had feet in them they wouldn’t look near so like orthopedics. With those high of heels I think the toes would be pressing hard to get out!
February 8th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Not for me.
I’m not the hugest fan of peep-toes to start with (the occasional pair makes it into my closet, but they better not make my toes look funny). Booties don’t do much for me, either. And you know I wasn’t crazy about high-heel oxfords.
February 9th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Ugly. Wouldn’t wear those opened knee booties even if it would be the only pair of louboutins in my closet (and received for free, and autographed by louboutin himself)!

I like them-expecially the patent leather with a pin-stripe suit, white vest, ect. However, I feel that the really good-looking ones are far too expensive for what I believe is a very trendy shoe. I found an affordable pair on Kohl’s.com that look great. I haven’t received them yet, so the jury is out.

peep-toe Oxfords and peep-toe booties from Nordstrom are RIDICULOUS FOR YOUR FEET don’t buy them. When is everyone going to stop making such a big deal of 4+ inch heels or for that matter 2+ inch heels?? No one wears them really not even models just for the photo shoot or 1-2 minutes on the runway if they don’t fall and that is it my dears! You see Bridget or Elle with flats in the “real world”. Maybe on the red carpet for approx the 5 minute of fame big woopla!! Or maybe in bed when is one is lying down not on ones feet well maybe for just a 1-2 minutes….lets get back to earth shall we and quit spending all this money on things that are not good for us. I love it when I hear a sales girl in Nordstroms telling me “oh I was able to wear my 4+inch heels for 4 hours today I am doing good” REALLY for whom?
