Spring’s knitted jacket for structure and comfort

March 20th, 2008

If you like the structure of a jacket but the comfort of a sweater, then the knitted jacket or “sweater jacket” is for you. Some styles look more like cardigans while others are more like jackets. Either way, these items are knits, which makes them stretchy, soft and relaxed. Tailored or trapeze, collared or collarless, classic or trendy, smart or casual and plain or patterned, there’s a style to pull together your look in a cozy and comfortable way.

Knitted jackets won’t work if your Springs are warm. But they’re ideal for chilly Spring days, which are plentiful in Seattle.

    Hi Angie,

I was wondering if you have any tips for spring fashion for those of us living in a somewhat warmer climate. I’m a pear who loves to wear pants and longer jackets, but the weather is just getting too warm here in San Diego. I don’t really like showing off my arms or a lot of leg, so I’m often at a loss. Any suggestions?

    Mia

I absolutely love the abundance of these this spring in all the wonderful colors. I live in the north and we actually still have snow on the ground so spring comes slowly. Can do almost anything with one of these. Hope they stick around.

  3. Angie Says:

Wow snow still on the ground. We’re not there anymore but it takes a LONG time to warm up in this neck of the woods too. Trench coats, knitwear and jackets are staples in a Seattle wardrobe.

Even in AZ I love these kinds of things. It may be 100 degrees outside, but office buildings are still kept in the 70s. These kinds of jackets make it easy to take one or three into the office and always look put together without being uncomfortable!

Very fun, especially that yellow one in the lower left. It doesn’t have a link associated with the picture, was that an oversight? I’d love to see if it comes in other bright colors (yellow isn’t good against my face) and what it costs. Thank you!

This is kind of ALL that I wear :P :P :P to work that is

I love it! Especially the structured one like the top left in pink and the yellow one that Antje likes. Fabulously Broke, where do you purchase you knit jackets? $300 for the jacket (top left) is way more than I can spend.

    Antje,

That’s the Corrine Sweater Jacket from J. Crew. It’s $138.00 and comes in the yellow color and navy. I’ve had my eye on the navy one for a while. :D

I noticed that J Jill has one called Dyan sweater jacket on sale for 50$. YOu can look at it on line, but it looked better in the picture of the catalog that I recieved in the mail.

I am the odd one out because I personally prefer the structure of a woven jacket! But, I am VERY use to wearing woven jackets and find them very comfortable. I do recommend the knitted jacket option for clients who prefer the comfort of knits. It’s the perfect solution.

The linkless picture was an oversight. It’s from J Crew and the link is below. It comes in black as well.

This is exactly what I need. These give the structure and layering effect without the discomfort. They won’t pull across my chest or be baggy in the waist the same way woven jackets are, making them much more comfortable for me. Wish they were the right price!

I love these jackets, but I also love a traditional jacket, and even denim or corduroy jackets for casual outfits. I am particularly fond of the first yellow one and the 5th red one. I love them all, but those are the two that I think would look best on me. I love the colors, I love the fact that they are stretchy! and I love the ease of layering. I am a big fan of layering and always feel more put together with a layered outfit. These are practical, pretty, and fun! If I had three hands, I’d give them Three Thumbs UP!!!!!! :)

I bought a shorter one of these last fall and just love it. I have a short torso, so I like to wear a longer shirt underneath and I look taller! Yay! They are versatile…I have a black one that I enjoy wearing with solid and printed long, lean silhouette tops…great with heels and jeans or a dress pants and heels…LOL, I’ve worn my Converse hi-tops too for a more funky look.
