Beat belly bulge with this knitted top
April 16th, 2008A sleeveless, wrap knitted top with wide welt is flattering. I’ve tried this style on various body types and I’m always surprised at how well it works. It starts to make sense when I break it down:
- The armholes are cut away to reveal a pretty shoulder bone. Sleeveless tops usually look better when you show your shoulder bone.
- The blouson effect is forgiving around the mid-riff area. It’s the perfect camouflage for those with a little extra around the tummy.
- The wide welt provides structure. Make sure that the welt starts below your navel and is comfortable over the belly. Its ruching effect is another plus.
- The V-neck and wrap feature are elongating and slimming. The wrap feature gives a larger bosom room, and a smaller bosom volume.
- The shawl collar is great layered under V-neck jackets.
Soft, silky knits feel heavenly against our skin, but are often clingy in the wrong places. This style offers a superb solution. Wear it with a camisole because the front opening tends to part when you move. Comfortable, versatile and chic. So much better than a T-shirt and just as easy to launder.
Ana from the forum found this particularly good example of the style, available from Bluefly.com.

The green top would look great with dark denim and a metallic sandal. I’ll have to look around for something like this in my area.

I like the lines of the top…very flattering for a variety of body types

I bought this top in black from bluefly.com for $38. I am thinking of duplicating it as is. It works with all the bottoms in my wardrobe. Remember this post:

Ana bought the same top in army green and she looks wonderful in it. You’ll see a picture of her wearing it on this forum thread.

I bought this shirt in the green color and I love it! It’s easily the most flattering shirt I own and it’s so soft and comfortable. If you decide to order it, I’d say it runs true to size, similar in sizing to BR or J. Crew. I wear a size 8 on top and I ordered the medium.

You might want to duplicate it too, Ana.

Angie, do you mean buy a second green one or buy another color?

I mean buy the same one on green! You’d mentioned that you do not prefer black, otherwise I’d have suggested that as an alternative. What are your thoughts?

I am getting one in green as well. Angie, would this VS top be able to achieve the same effect or is the cut and the fact that is has sleeves to different:

That might give us more color options!

Well spotted, Tanya. It could very well give a similar effect. Flutter sleeves are a little more child-like, and harder to wear, but it could work really well. I personally do not prefer the bound piping along the edge of the wrap part of the VS top (zoom in on the picture and you’ll see it). It’s less chic that way. The devil is always in the detail!

I generally do think black is rather boring for me, but I might go ahead and get a black one because it is such a fabulous shirt. It would be worth it I think because the shape is so flattering, and I have lots of colors that would look good under the black that under the green, might just look muddy. I’ll just have to wear bright accessories to make it more interesting.

Angie, I just read your post on duplicating items and I think you’re right–I will probably end up going back to the green one and wearing it a lot more than the black, so I will order another one in green. I would be sad if it were to wear out and I didn’t have another one to replace it. Plus, I’m thinking of all the bottoms I have in my wardrobe that would look great witht the green shirt.

I have 2 of these!
But I am kind of sad they usually only have black, no ivory, no white, nothing fresh

I dearly wish they had more colors as well, FB. Even a dark brown would be wonderful. Cream or Ivory would be heavenly!

I have this in black. Love how it conceals my stomach.
