Wonderful white watches
May 8th, 2008A very stylish German friend 10 years my senior wears an oversized white ceramic Chanel watch that I have admired the day it was gifted to her. She wears it every day instead of a wedding ring and it’s very much part of her signature style.
I never thought I could wear bulky watches, let alone white ones, because I have dainty wrists and pale skin. But then another friend of mine with equally dainty wrists got herself a funky white and titanium watch and it looked great. I was inspired and bought a more refined, less sporty version (alas, not the porcelain Chanel watch that I covet).
It’s my everyday watch and I love it. My retro silver watches are resting as I enjoy the crisp and modern elements of this new accessory. It makes my outfits feel extra Summery and matches my pearl necklaces. It’s like wearing an iPod on your wrist. Good arm candy.
I’m glad I saw past my preconceived ideas and gave the white-watch-look a chance. I thank my friends for the inspiration.

Thanks Angie for the information! They look fabulous! I can imagine it being a wonderful addition to the cream/white Summer wardrobe.

You are welcome Julia. It’s amazing how such a small addition can make a HUGE difference. It’s certainly a way of adding punch when clothing trends don’t work for you.

Ooh I like!!! I was looking at getting a white ceramic Toywatch. Out of these, I like the Michael Kors Ladies’ Chronograph watch the best.

It’s good to hear that these come in non-sporty styles. I’m not sporty in the least, and I usually avoid oversized watches. But my watch is starting to get a little beat up, so I’m on the lookout for a new one.

This is a look I need to try! I too have dainty wrists and always liked wearing chunky watches or bangle bracelets because the contrast seems to make my arms look slim. I have never yet tried white.

I’m curious about how you’ll perceive the change Joelle. You have to find the RIGHT chunky watch, of course. It took me a little while but after I’d found it I thought “ why did it take me so long!” Also, white seems to soften the whole look. Hope you find your watch soon.

White watches are very very classy! A few years ago when Chanel launched the famous white watch (forgot the name unfortunately) I’ve started noticing how elegant they look and how it stands out- but in a good way.

[…] I feel naked without a watch. It is a no-nonsense accessory that completes a look like no mobile phone can. In fact, I have several watches that I like to change daily, weekly and seasonally. It’s a fun and subtle way to mix-up an ensemble. There are signs that phones are becoming stylish too, but I’m not convinced that they will be fashion accessories in quite the same way as my chunky white watch. […]
