Jessica Simpson’s “designer” piece
June 10th, 2008I need to give credit where it’s due. Jessica Simpson makes a nice product.
The avant-garde jacket that you see below caught my attention in Nordstrom last week. It’s interesting, streamlined, voluminous, tailored, and impeccably made. It has a full lining, overt top-stitching, an oversized collar, exaggerated box pleats and kimono sleeves. It also has a pair of unexpected, discreetly positioned side-entry pockets. Fabulous. The photo does not do the item justice.
A girl can’t ask for more when a mainstream piece looks “designer” for $98 at full price. Sew in a Prada or Chloe label and you’ve fooled the world. I love it.
I purchased black last week and I’ve worn this jacket almost every day. It looks great with white pants or straight leg jeans and dressy flats.

Wow Angie this is a gorgeous jacket indeed. It if wasn’t for my shopping ban I’d be all over it.
Who’d say J.S would come up with such a cute thing. I browsed around Nordies a bit and she makes this pretty silver trench too:

This piece looks FABU!

Question: Did SHE design it? Or did she just put her name on it? I’m always puzzled by these celebrity “designer” lines….

It’s hard to think about warmer pieces like this in Spring, but in Seattle, we need loads of cover-ups so they’re always welcome in my wardrobe. And when you look for pieces like these, they’re never there!
Jessica Simpson has super sling bags out at the moment which are great for Mums with small children who need both hands free. And Jessica Simpson flats are generally comfortable. I’ll continue to give her product a second glance.
I don’t know Marlene, but whoever puts her collection together is rather astute. Price points are good too.
Wait for it to go on sale, Tanya. It should be around the same time your shopping ban ends.

I just saw this at Nordies and thought it was so cute. But - I was focused on summer rather than our current weather - maybe summer will finally come to Seattle.

I refuse to buy Jessica Simpson pieces–you know, on principle. But it’s nearly impossible sometimes to resist. She has some great talent working for her.

It is very beautiful indeed. Angie do you think the XS would work on a petite like me?

Well, there’s a heat wave in NY…95 degrees!!! So layering seems to be out of the question these days…

By the way…I am reading “Nothing To Wear” and I took their quiz to figure out my dressing style. To my surprise I am “classic”. I was relieved to finally figure out what my style was. I think I am a classic b/c I have limited funds, LOL. I tend to purchase basics such as navy, white, khaki, charcoals and browns. This morning I went on the Jcrew site and purchased a white crisp button down shirt, I also bought it in black (Angie says to buy in multiples), i bought a simple black dress with no bells or whistles ($59) and simple pearl earrings. I spent a total of $250 bucks but I think that I can get tons of use from these few items. I also bought a black cashmere pashmina. I think that this Jessica Simpson jacket in black might actually be a good piece to add to my wardrobe but alas, I am not sure if I should spend more money….

Oh, that silver trench is pretty nice too!

i have 2 pairs of ballet flats by JS also - i almost didn’t buy them because they were from her - but then, the price, comfort and beauty of the shoes made them irresistable! good for her!

I’m sure this wasn’t her personal design. I laugh at the thought of her actually drafting a pattern. Nice piece though.

I have a pair of JS boots. LOVE. I’m often attracted to JS shoe designs and prices. Who would have thought???

It’s worth a try, Julia. I’m not sure how the length of the voluminous sleeves will fall because you wear petites from time to time. But go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You’ll probably pull off the gold-y shade too.

Oooh I love it! Do you think it would be available in the UK (albeit at some hyper inflated price)? And can an hour glass wear it?

Thanks Angie, I’ll go to the local Nordi to try it on if they have it in stock. And I was going to ask about the gold-y shade because I like it a lot.
