Scary footwear
August 5th, 2008A recent thread on the YLF forum labeled the $1,795 designer boots on the left below the “ugliest perversion of fashion ever made”. They certainly aren’t my style, but I can appreciate their edgy, daring, dramatic, gothic and grungy appeal. They look impeccably made, which for the price is the least you should expect.
On the right is what I would call an ugly shoe. Their five and a half inch stiletto heel looks like a weapon. The brand is called “Promiscuous” and this particular style has been labeled “Flirtatious”. It is described as an “overpoweringly sexy platform”. Somehow, I wouldn’t feel particularly alluring if I wore these. Do they scare you too?

They look like part of a naughty nurse Halloween costume.

Anyone see or am reminded of the Bridget Fonda movie “Single White Female”? Similar was a murder weapon!

Yikes! The ones on the right are appropriately named aren’t they?
I like the ones on the left they have a certain je ne sais quoi.

Hmmm…looks like the perfect shoe for a girl who takes home lots of dollar bills each night! I think I’ll pass. My husband may like the idea of a naughty nurse costume, but I think I would need a nurse if I wore them!!

Definitely scary! And they don’t fit my 8 hour shoe criteria. Rather than “Flirtatious” they scream “Don’t mess with me” or “I’m high maintance and need to be noticed”

I love the black boots and would probably wear them with everything if I had them.
(Yes, even in the Hong Kong summer. Bless their love of air-cons.)

Very scary! The ones on the left looks midieval, and the hideous red ones on the right are definitely hooker’s delight.

While the ones on the right are uglier, the ones on the left have a certain creepy feeling to them. I feel the same way about them as I do about a cyclops monster in some recent scary movie (Pan’s Labyrinth, maybe? I didn’t see it, I just saw previews) - they just look mangled. I am absolutely not on board with the multiple lacing thing. It kind of scares me.

Well, you already know I’d wear the boots!
The red ones: no…not scary. They are only shoes!
They look kind of super-hero ish to me…and painful, very painful!

I think the ones on the right are only suitable for satan’s secretary. The others aren’t my style and I don’t find them especially attractive, but they don’t terrify me the way the others do.

Great for Halloween costumes if you have all the money in the world to burn. On the left we have the bride of Frankinstine, and on the left, as Maya as put it, “satan’s secretary.”

*sorry, I meant to say “on the right” the second time. I really do know my right and left.

The black boots are totally cool! Not for the average girl about town, but they look very Resident Evil hip. Milla Jovovich would look fabulous in them (not that she’d ever look un-fabulous). Great goth fantasy boot.
As for the “flirtatious” red boots…Carmen Electra comes to mind. Not a good image. In fact, I feel in need of a brain scrub.

OK so while reading the reviews for a shoe I tried on yesterday, I thought it would be amusing to read the description of the Promiscuous brand:
Sexy, seductive, and sassy shoes and lingerie is what Promiscuous strives for. Every woman has a sensual side to her and Promiscuous encourages every woman to show it. Every woman has a practical side too - the desire for footwear that’s comfortable and that fits. Each style is tested for everyday wear and includes a shock absorbing gel insert at the heel. From dancing all night with your girlfriends at a swanky club, to arousing your significant other, Promiscuous fulfills a need in your life.
…DANCING ALL NIGHT? Only if you have a death wish! I assure you any woman who purchases these shoes is not striving for comfort, so I wish they would just stick to their market and try not to encroach on others’ territory. It’s like John McCain taking up extreme sports to appeal to the youth vote. No one’s going to buy it!

I would not wear either. I think the black ones are extremely ugly and way too goth looking. I would look like a freak in those if I wore them to my midwest suburban stores, schools, restaurants, etc. The red ones defy explanation.

Yes. I fear them both in much the same way that I fear the apocalypse. And the dentist. Seriously, though, I think both pairs are utter monstrosities. Completely unwearable for humans.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Yes those shoes are scary. I wonder which celebrity will wear them.

The red ones are a definite NO. The black ones, eh. You could make them work if you try hard enough. They’d look better if they had a little more shine to them. The black boots are not for everyone. I do know some people who can carry that look off and look great with them. I don’t think I’m one of those people.

Those black boots are great! They are so tough looking, I can’t stand it. Of course, they had to be Demeulemeester.
August 6th, 2008 at 2:07 am
I love the black boots. XD I actually have a simplier (and much cheaper) version and it’s my winter staple, worn with skinny jeans.
The red ones - no, thanks. They won’t flatter even the shapeliest legs in the universe. And they are ugly.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:08 am
Interesting. We have a zero percent tolerance for the red shoes and a 50:50 percent split for the black boots. I’m chuffed with this reaction. I’d have had an apoplexy if anyone seriously liked the red peds. The black boots, I’m with you. While they may not be my style, I can see the appeal.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:38 am
BOTH are really, really ugly shoes!!! Would never be caught dead even looking at them!
August 6th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
LOL–the image of “Satan’s Secretary” has made my day. Those red boots are heinous. I rather love the black ones, though! I mean, not $1700 worth of love, but if someone gave them to me and they fit, I’d wear them for sure. With a full, slighlty boho skirt.
