Labor-free hair
September 1st, 2008I have a good chuckle on Nordstrom.com when their models sport a “bird’s nest” up-do. These hairstyles crack me up. If it were stylish sporting our hair this way, we’d never have a bad hair day again. Bad hair would be fab hair.
Bird’s nest hairstyles for dramatic catwalk appeal and costume parties? Absolutely. Other than that, I don’t think so. My head would feel itchy all the time. Not to mention how dreadfully unpolished I’d feel and look.
If you are in the USA, we at YLF wish you a happy Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend and good luck getting the kids off to a great start back at school.
These hairstyles often accompany the creative and edgy Marc Jacobs prêt-a-porter collection.

He, he, these are really bad. I don’t think any real person would want to spot something something like this for daily activities.
Quite a few years ago, I was teasing my long hair so that it would hold better in some complicated updo, I forgot the occasion. In the middle of the process, my hair sort of looked like on the photos. My baby brother, who was about ten at the time, came by, had a look at me, got scared and asked: ” Why do you look like a witch?”

A nice soft bristle brush would do wonders to smooth those styles out into something really nice! (Or maybe not so nice, but delightfully 60’s)

Anika, my 5 year old, saw these hairstyles in a catalog and thought they were hilarious! I asked her if I should wear my hair like that and she said emphatically, “NO!”

Just looking at those hairstyles makes my head itch!

I know I’m alone but I like them on the models. Definitely not for the real world though.
And on a side note, I am in love with that red tie neck blouse. Makes me wish I could deflate my chest somehow.

Ha - that’s what my hair would look like if I didn’t have it chemically straightened in a salon. Now THAT is truly labor-free hair when I don’t have to try to brush out a curly rat’s nest each day and instead have sleek straight locks!

A barista at one of our local Starbucks wears her hair like that. . .. it looks odd

They look dry and unhealthy to me. I think they distract people for the clothes they are showing which defeats the purpose.

I laughed when I saw these do’s on the Nordstrom page. I honestly thought it must be some kind of joke.

I’m so with you, Angie. I look at those carefully touseled dos and think, “Bet that took more time than I spent doing my own hair today.” Eesh.

Ha Tanya! Witch-like is an accurate description.
Julia, I feel the hairstyles distract from the clothing too, but it wouldn’t deter me personally from actually purchasing anything. Quite right, the goal is to sell the clothing, and if there’s a risk of preventing that from happening, the risk should not be taken.
Maya, what is it about these up-dos that appeal to you?

They look like a teased 60’s do that got caught in a windstorm.

Some say bird’s nest. . .I say rat’s nest!

The hair here is a little extreme - but I’m a big fan of undone hair. Truthfully, I only comb my hair every other day - when I work the conditioner through in the shower. I’ve learned to embrace unruly hair because of this area’s humid summers.

My hair often looks like this when I first wake up!!

What I meant was that I liked them for the photographs. Don’t get me wrong: These are definitely NOT for traipsing around town.
