Let's go Hawaiian - YouLookFab Forum

I'm very new to the forum, but I need your advice. I need a dress for a Hawaiian-themed birthday party for my aunt that will be held in Arizona in two weeks, and nothing is working out. I will not do cheesy Hawaiian, but I will do floral. I'm an hourglass, and on the heavy side. Also, I live in Chicago, so it's unlikely these will get worn again until next spring/summer. The temperature in Arizona is expected to be 90s in the day, and "cooler" in the 80s at night for the party. We're already in boots and jackets in my neck of the woods!

So, what do you think of these?

Without seeing you I'm thinking the third choice (atl floral blouse) would be your best choice. It's a definite tropical print that's classy and should fit nicely into the theme yet something you can wear next summer dressed up or down. I don't see the Target dress at an Hawaiian party. The floral prints on the other dresses seem too dainty, although I like the way the first dress is also shown with more fallish accessories.

I like the blouse option, because you can layer it maybe make it work in your wardrobe earlier than you might pull out a dress.

Ha, thanks, that's about where I was leaning too. I ordered the first dress (the fall layering intrigued me too) and the blouse, and my guess is the blouse will be best. Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts!

I agree with others - I think the blouse is the way to go! If you layer it with a jacket or cardi, you might be able to wear it even before it gets really warm.

My vote goes towards the blouse as well. What are you going to wear with it? White denim bottoms would be great I'd think.

They had a pair of white denim on final sale in my size, so I ordered those too. Even if they don't work, they only cost me $6. I do have a pair of white linen pants that just went into storage-- is it okay to wear white linen after Labor Day if you're in the desert?

I think if it's still very warm, white linen might be okay.

Of course, especially for a Hawaiian theme party!

I plan on taking my white linen pants on my trip to HI this month, so I think for a Hawaiian-themed party you're definitely in the clear.

Just wanted to follow up and say thanks for all the advice! Unfortunately, the blouse is a snug, scratchy affair -- completely ill-fitting and wrong. Boo!

But the white denim jeans were a hit (my husband especially liked them from the back lol), and he also reminded me I picked up a sheer blue-and-white floral blouse recently on my last trip to AT Outlet. I'll try it all on together and see if it works, but I think it might be it!

I also decided to keep this mustard bag; it's a little bigger than I like, but I need something for traveling that I can keep my big camera in. It'll be a great addition to the outfit, too.
