THEME WEEK, DAY 6: poor mr black.

in the true spirit of challenging oneself, i decided to experiment a little with mr black. therefore, this post is also known as "hanna's first experiments with a waistcoat." i think i may like it:

Hanna, the vest and graphic tee are so cute on you-wait, no- cute is not the word I want. It has a nice, polished edge to it... how about fab. Looks fab.

Sara: That is such a great blouse.

My take on Mr. Black was as a throwback to the mysterious dames of pulp crime novels from the 40s. The kind that "just walked in and you knew they were trouble." The kind that end up DEAD, just like our mysterious Mr. Black.
(This mood is probably because I had a manicure this weekend, and got a dark cherry polish on my fingers for the first time. It's made me feel very femme fatale! Hee!)

I was trying to channel the stuffy(?) and mysterious Mr. Black, hence the grey. But I also wanted to hint at his various dalliances (he must have had something to draw the ladies no?) and hence the red necklace. Then I was reminded of the whole "pop of color" thread here and desperately tried to find something else red, but nada, zilch. This is the nth time I have wished I had a pair of red shoes, so off to make that purchase now. Ooh, I'm sporting my newly acquired waistcoat. What do you think?

GG, love the trench; it is very mysterious and sleek.

FYI, I removed the cuff because the dress and heels had so much attitude the cuff was pushing the whole look a little too far beyond that for the office. As it is, I am hands-down the most dressed-up person there; we all wear business attire, but most people wear it in sloppy, uncoordinated ways. It's either severe suits and a plain shell with no accessories for the women, or too-short ties with mismatched shirts for the men. I stand out as it is, and the cuff felt like it was going to be over-the-top for that. As it turned out, I think I made the right choice; I got tons of compliments yesterday, but people were almost intimidated by the outfit! Too funny.

Niva, I LOVE the new waistcoat on you, and that necklace is gorgeous! That's a pop of color I can get behind.

Tam, love the head-to-toe black, and especially the striped vest.

Mr. Black was my most difficult day. I think it is because I wear black virtually every day and I wanted to do something different. I didn't want to be in all black on a nice spring day. Ultimately, I decided to add a pop of color with my shoes. Mrs. White also had influence.

Bella, LOVE the way the bright pearls bring out the stripes in the blouse. It's all black, but there's a lot of texture going on, and that comes out.

Thanks Angie! I've been realizing so more and more as I see my pictures every day. I don't do much to take care of it apart from trying not to blow dry my hair more than a few times a month. I need to step up and start taking better care of my best accessory!
